Alnif and the surrounding basin area feature many fossils, primarily from the Devonian and (early) Carboniferous periods. This includes many prehistoric creatures, but most famously the fossils of Trilobites. The presence of a range from trilobites, tetrapods, prehistoric fish, and dinosaur fossils show that the area has been home to both water dwelling and land dwelling animals, indicating that it has been submerged and dry at various points in history.
The Alnif Basin is a general fossil location, rather than a concentrated dig site.
